SMS Students make waves in Seward
Aboard the KFTB Science Explorer
Students in ED 331 TM: Science, Mathematics and Society, an integrated teaching methods class, spent a sunny spring day in Resurrection Bay, learning about the ecosystem and teaching short lessons to middle grade students. The pictures below show these preservice teachers in action. The poem that follows was a reflective piece written by one of the these folks-- guess which one.

Is "cold fusion" happening, here?

One activity involved looking at animal adaptations to the area while another calculated salinity of the seawater.

Too much fun!!!

                Just Sit Right Back…

The Professor led the way
On his red Harley with Karen by his side.
Sitting in the sidecar,
This was sure to be a great ride.

Dequency wondered if we fell asleep,
Would the Professor hit a sheep?
Would we end up in heaven,
Or just on the wrong street?

Pamela saw her first sheep.
And on the boat she had a camera,
Click-Click!
Good memories they will make.

Dawn created a new invention,
Old Man it was named.
Such an interesting smell,
I surely hope it brings her great fame.

Gilligan sat in the back,
And tried and tried to take a nap.
But the road down was just too bumpy,
I’m sure glad it didn’t make him grumpy.

Teri knows everyone in Seward,
We even passed by her husband on the sea.
Then watched her run out the door with glee.
Her mom was so nice and took care of us in that small town.

The kids had a wonderful trip,
So many smiles on their faces.
With a roar of the Harley,
The Professor and his crew headed home.
