Earth Systems Student Presentations
Students are required to research and report upon, in teams or individually, the information that they have found about the topic of their choice from one of the Earth Orbitting System posters below. They then write two questions for the unit assessment and correct the answers to the questions.
(The posters are available at this address: http://eospso.gsfc.nasa.gov/eos_posters/posters_toc.html)
The following slides show students in action, sharing their knowledge of the topic they have chosen...

Why are these two so enthused about Ocean Processes?
Hydrology (yeah!) and Vegetation (yuk!)

Notice the color-coded vegetation...            A round of "Musical Chairs" ...                      makes a point about losing ground.

The chilling facts about global ice and sea level changes are demonstrated.        Warming up to the Impact of Volcanoes.

And then there's the Greenhouse Effect...        Cooling off with Cloud Radiative Effects?

Ozone Depletion is explained...                                                And this is the guy that started it!!!

Building terraria and aquaria to study closed systems can be a creative and messy experience...

Students use one liter plastic water bottles to create their own terraium and aquarium. Snails, elodea and rocks are added to
water, then sealed and monitored for changes over the following 3-4 weeks. Empty bottles have soil, mosses and lichens
added, are sealed and monitored for the same time period. Close and frequent observations allow changes to be noticed
and recorded-- for the lab write-up that follows the observation period.

Selecting flora and fauna begins.                Confused? Ask the third member of your team!      Careful introduction of biota.
