Where to find features using PowerPoint
Each version of PowerPoint might be a bit different, so if you
don’t find it
exactly as described, you might have to look a bit
- To change the layout - Go to Format and then scroll to Slide Layout
(lets you set up different slide layouts, such as a chart, an
organization chart, or a table).
- To select a colorful background - Go to Format and then scroll to Apply
Design Template (lets you change the background. With Office 2000, you
have the same design for all slides. You can cover the background with a
screen size picture if you desire).
- To change the background color - Go to Format and then scroll to
Background (lets you change the background color and even omit the
Background you have selected for you other slides if you desire).
- To change the colors of many parts of your slide - Go to Format and
then scroll to Slide Color Scheme (allows you to change background and
other colors for one or all slides).
- To create a show that changes slides at times you choose automatically
- Go to Slide Show and then scroll to Rehearse Timings (lets you
rehearse(practice) and set a slide show to have the slides change
automatically).
- To select “action buttons” (which we didn’t cover) -
Go to Slide Show and then scroll to Action Buttons (sets
“clickable” buttons into your slide show allowing you to
click for sounds, animations, or other actions).
- To have your ideas “animate” or appear one sentence or item
at a time - Go to Slide Show and then scroll to Custom
Animation–the only animation choice I would use to animate (have
individual lines, etc. appear one at a time in your show).
- To have slides dissolve or transition when bringing up the next slide -
Go to Slide Show and then scroll to Slide Transition (sets a transition
from slide to slide, rather than just having the next slide appear).
- To create a link to the Internet or another program - Go to Insert and
then scroll to Hyperlink (links the slide show to Internet, another
program, or another slide in the same show. This last choice means that
you don’t have to go in sequential order. This is a very powerful
command).
- To change a font for an entire slide show - Go to Format and then
scroll to Replace Fonts (you can change a font for an entire slide show
easily with this command!)
- T create an Organizational Chart - Organizational Chart (gives you a
chart you can set up to show the “chain of command” in an
organization or use for a family tree. Go to INSERT and look for Picture
and then look in the submenu for Organizational Chart).
- To insert Charts or Tables - Charts and Tables (you can insert a chart
or table in your presentation. Go to INSERT and look for CHART or TABLE).
