Internet Resources

The following links are just a collection of links. Some are useful, others I visited at one time and might have enjoyed.


International Society for Technology in Education (http://www.iste.org) - This international organization of Educational Technology Professionals offers resources for teachers. There are also standards projects (National Educational Technology Standards) for students, all teachers, and for Technology teachers. The site is updated with new information regularly and offers professional membership for interested "Technologists."

National Educational Technology Consortium http://www.netc.org - The Northwest Education Technology Consortium offers professional training opportunities and many online resources for educators and education students. Some of the information is a bit "dated," but the site still offers good information as well as links to many current sources in Technology Education.

CNET http://www.cnet.org - A website where you can find reviews of computers, printers, digital cameras, computer components, software, and other technology products. There are also software downloads and newsletters available. A great site to visit when you are considering a product for purchase.

SearchEngineWatch http://searchenginewatch.com/ - Do you need more search engines or search engines by category?  Here is a site with links to more than you knew existed! In addition to a link to a list of the major search engines, there are links to search engines for children, news, metasearch engines, multimedia search engines, and other specialty search engines.

The Library of Congress http://www.loc.gov - Online resources from the largest library in the world.  Over $100 million has been allocated toward the digital library resources of The Library of Congress since the late 1990's.

Alaska Apple Users Group http://www.akappleug.org/ - The web site for the local Apple User Group that meets each month in Anchorage.  Check the web site for more information on membership, meetings, and location.

MacFixIt -  This site offers help with many Macintosh problems.  Unfortunately, it is not completely a FREE site anymore, but there are still some resources available at no charge.


Mike's T-shirts http://www.mikestshirts.com/ - This is a site that I enjoyed when I accidentally stumbled over it.  I later found that this was Mike's first web site he made.  Whether you want to buy a T-shirt or not, check this site out.  Click on the different categories of T-shirts.  Most have music set to the "theme" of the subject.

Astronomy for Kids http://www.kidsastronomy.com/- This site is for kids and "Supervised Adults." It has maps, information, and definitions about astronomy and links to useful astronomy resources.

New York Times http://www.nytimes.com - New York Times newspaper on the web!  It is updated when news comes out, so you can often view breaking news before the next newspaper goes to print.

Living Tradition of Yup'ik Masks http://www.tribalarts.com/feature/riordan/- This was a site that I found a while back with a lot of interesting information about Yup'ik masks. The actual site not only has information on Yup'ik Masks, but also on native arts frosm many cultures of the world.

 
JourneyED http://www.journeyed.com- Here is a web site of a company offering Educational Pricing on software.  I have ordered from them and they have been very dependable.  Some other companies offering Educational Software pricing are: Educational Resources , Gradware , and TRC Online .

WorldStart http://www.worldstart.com/ - This is a great site offering newsletters online that you can subscribe and receive as often as daily.  Examples are computer tips daily,  Office Tips, and others. Often subscribing or getting off Internet newsletters and be difficult, but this site makes this very easy

Version Tracker http://www.versiontracker.com- This site will check your computer to see what software you are running has available updates. You will be able to download many of the updates directly. Others you will have a link to the manufacture. This is available for Macintosh OS 8/9 Macintosh OS X, Windows and Palm OS. There is an annual subscription fee to check your computer, but you can access other good features (lists of downloads available) without a paid subscription.
